Abstract:

A total of 180 day-old Vencobb 400 strain broiler chickens were distributed randomly into 4 groups (T0, T1, T2 and T3) having 45 chicks with three replicates of 15 in each group. The experimental groups were supplemented with three different types of feed additives viz, T1 (Zinc Bacitracin@55mg/kg), T2 (Probiotic@150mg/kg) and T3 (Clove oil@400ppm) with T0 as control. The experiment was conducted for 42 days. At the end of the experiment, 5 birds from each group were slaughtered to study the intestinal morphology. The height and width of the villi, depth of the crypts of duodenum and jejunum were measured. The ratio of villi height to crypt depth was also calculated. From the results of the present study, it may be concluded that probiotic and essential oil can be used as an effective alternative to antibiotic.
