Abstract:

This present investigation was established for analysis different hair morphological and morphometric features and identify the animal based up on these characters. Hair samples for this experiment were collected from the ten apparently healthy animals from each four selected district zone of Meghalaya. Hair tip of Meghalaya local cattle had an acicular shape whereas the root of the hair was of medium clavulate type. Crenate imbricate multi-serrated scale pattern were observed under light and scanning electron microscope. Medulla of the hair was mainly of simple unbroken type. Presence of ovoid bodies and cortical granules were the main features of the hair cortex. In cross section more oval shaped hairs were observed. X/Y feret and scale count of local cattle of Meghalaya were 6.22±0.14 and 15±0.57 (per 100µm area). This investigation has the potential to establish baseline data for future forensic examination regarding this animal.
